How We Recommend Voices

There is no universally best AI voice. Any recommendation only means something once you know the project, the audience and the length. These are the fifteen criteria used across this site, and the rules that constrain what gets said.
The criteria
- Naturalness
- Does the phrasing sound like speech rather than recitation? Rhythm matters more than timbre.
- Clarity
- Do consonants survive phone speakers, compression and background noise?
- Vocal fatigue
- Is the voice still comfortable at minute fifteen? This is judged on long renders, never clips.
- Trust
- Does the delivery stay steady and avoid overselling the material?
- Pace
- Is the tempo appropriate to the format, with pauses at concept boundaries?
- Articulation
- How does the voice handle acronyms, numbers, units and proper nouns?
- Personality
- Is there enough character to be recognisable without becoming a costume?
- Audience fit
- Does the register suit who is listening and in what situation?
- Subject fit
- Does the tone match the seriousness and density of the material?
- Short-form performance
- Is the voice present and clear from the first syllable?
- Long-form performance
- Does energy stay even across extended narration?
- Consistency
- Do repeated generations match closely enough to cut together?
- Emotional range
- Can the voice shift register where the script requires it?
- Professionalism
- Would this pass in paid client work without apology?
- Conversational quality
- Does it speak to a listener rather than perform at an audience?
What we will not do
- Invent search volumes, statistics, awards, testimonials, client lists or user counts.
- Publish numerical scores that imply measurement where none happened.
- Claim guaranteed engagement, retention or monetisation. Nobody can promise those.
- Suggest ElevenLabs endorses this site or the Buster voice.
- Call any voice objectively “the best”, including Buster.
- Publish comparison results before the comparisons have actually been run.
How Buster is treated
Buster is named where his characteristics genuinely fit and described as a strong fit, a possible fit, or not the right choice. The Voice Finder applies the same rule: choose a character voice, a child-like voice or a high-energy youth format and it will tell you to look elsewhere. That honesty is the point — the site is only worth trusting if it stays useful to someone who picks a different voice.
How recommendations are reviewed
Guidance here reflects working practice in professional voiceover and video production, plus first-hand experience licensing and using AI voice technology. Platform behaviour changes often, so anything that depends on ElevenLabs features, models or licensing is flagged as something to verify in the app rather than stated as permanent fact. Pages carry a last-reviewed date.
